First Gen is a comedy show featuring up and coming first generation and immigrant comics in NYC. Every comic has been hand picked for their hilarious insight on the immigrant experience in America. It's a night to celebrate our differences and laugh at the things we can all share together. Featuring Gus Constantellis, Xasmin Garza, Sarah Harvard, Farooq Hussain, Jason Choi, Jimmy HVD, and Brian Kim.
Gus Constantellis is a first generation Greek-American stand up comedian/writer. He will be presenting his half hour special, largely focused on his immigrant Greek family. He was born and raised in Brooklyn and currently a regular comic at Broadway Comedy Club, Stand Up NY, and Caroline’s. He is a gay comedian whose material deals heavily with his large immigrant family, his Greek heritage, and raunchy yet relatable dating stories. He is also a TV writer for several children's shows, including The Lion Guard, Rainbow Rangers, and Abby Hatcher.
Jason is a first generation Korean-Chinese-American who randomly grew to be 6’9, which he doesn’t understand either. Now, a New York-based comedian, he was also a recent finalist at both the Boston Comedy Festival and the New York Comedy Club Fall Invitational, as well as the 2019 winner of the Comedy Mob Festival. You can see him playing regularly at New York Comedy Club and Stand Up NY, as well as bar shows across the city. He’s also the Angry Sony Fanboy, a minor internet meme of 2006.
Jimmy HVD is an Australian comedian, now based in New York City. He mixes observational comedy and personal stories, finding humor in everyday activities like grocery shopping, preparing for marriage, and surviving Australia’s wildlife. Described as “someone you might get a beer with”, Jimmy’s laid-back and personable delivery will make it feel like you’re catching up with an old friend. Jimmy performs throughout NYC and at comedy festivals across the USA.
Brian Kim is a Korean American stand up comedian in New York City. Born in Korea to a Presbyterian pastor, Brian explores his traditional roots to life in America. Brian Kim is a regular at the Broadway Comedy Club in Times Square, and has been featured on Sirius XM Radio and the New York Comedy Festival.
Xazmin Garza is a New York comic who has distinguished herself as a rising star with her razor-sharp joke writing and dynamic stage presence. Interrobang called her "frank and hilarious," naming her a comic to watch in Boston, where she started doing comedy. She has performed in the Limestone, Laughing Skull, Rogue Island, Boston, 208, and Women in Comedy Festivals. She was selected to be a 2017 Comic in Residence at The Comedy Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and her comedy has been featured on SiriusXM.
Sarah Harvard is currently a freelance writer and stand-up comedian in New York City. She has been featured in the Washington Post, the Atlantic, VICE, Slate, the Huffpost, TeenVogue, the Guardian, the Intercept, and the New Republic. She has appeared on HuffPost Live, CBS, the Wendy Williams Show, Sirius XM, TLC, Comedy Cellar's Live From America Podcast, and the main subject of Mashable's short documentary on women in stand-up comedy. Within her first year of stand-up comedy, Sarah was selected as New York Comedy Festival's Best of New Talent ('19), selected for the Arab-American Comedy Festival ('19), was a quarterfinalist for Stand Up NBC, won the New Faces in Comedy contest in October 2019, and won several comedy competitions throughout New York City.
