Rocamadour & Co. is pleased to share with you 'New Lork', an immersive performance project that combines poetry, physical theatre, Spanish dancing, electronic music, textile design and video art, based on Lorca's experience in New York as captured in his poetry book Poet in New York.
The moon that looks at the gipsy child in the forge now looks after New York, a place where no one, no one, no one sleeps. During his stay in the American metropolis between 1919 and 1930, Federico García Lorca wrote Poet in New York, a book of poems that captures his experiences in a city where capitalist misery, jazz, skyscrapers and the segregation of the African American community intermingle. Lorca's New York is a city of money, iguanas, fumaroles and dead children. 'New Lork' is an exploration of Lorca's experience in the big city and shows a conservative and backwards Spain next to a cosmopolitan and modern city.
