Can We Talk?

Summer 2020. Two roommates, Kaitlyn and Frances, stuck inside their NYC apartment, avoid talking about coronavirus, BLM, unemployment, and Frances’ move by reenacting the story of Carla Horowitz, a WWII women airforce service pilot. Chairs become planes, resistance bands weapons. Using the whimsy of Hook and Pinter-like pauses, Can We Talk? playfully and tragically examines the inescapable cycle of history.

Paper Kraine

We're back for a sixth season of new works in development! The Paper Kraine was created in 2016 to bring together works in their earliest stages, audiences, and nonprofits. Monthly, the PK team curates a new works sampler platter around a theme related to a nonprofit - all PK ticket proceeds and a passed hat go to support the work of organizations like the Ali Forney Center, UNWRA, Mentors Against Violence Prevention, and the ACLU. This season is dedicated with unending gratitude towards the team of FRIGID NY. We all know artists making great work: all they need is a space, and FRIGID's dedication to making that accessible for artists is a vital part of the New York arts ecosystem.  Try something new, delicious and strange. Come for the art. Stay for the community. Paper Kraine was created on the principle that we all know writers, directors, actors, and creators who make wonderful work. All they need is a space. The Paper Kraine is committed to creating a venue for early-career artists to show humor-focused work in the spirit of adventurous discovery. We encourage risk-taking, question-asking, and the development of a supportive community of artists seeing, encouraging, and challenging each other’s work with the ultimate goal of enriching the artistic community through cross-pollination and meeting new people.

Funny Never Gets Old

"If I had to choose between ageism or sexism, I'd take a pat on the behind any day, since that meant someone noticed me.” Carole Montgomery creator of Funny Women of A Certain Age What began as a way to work with her friends has exploded on the comedy scene. When Carole (a veteran of the stand up scene for over 40 years) started, you would never see two female comics on the same show. Fast forward to today’s comedy scene and nothing has changed, even though there are way more women in comedy. With two TV specials on Showtime and a third TV special about to be filmed, this show is not to be missed!  Featuring a rotating cast of some of the best female comics of a certain age!

The Reparations Show

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR US LATELY? If you don’t have a good answer, we’ll send you our Venmo username. The Reparations Show is a variety show that will center stories created by and about Black and Indigenous artists. This weekly show kicks off on Juneteenth as part of FRIGID New York’s Queerly Festival, and each week will be hosted by a different BIPOC artist. The show is the brainchild of Erez Ziv, managing artistic director of FRIGID New York, and Kevin R. Free, the Curator of The Queerly Festival. It was created as a way to offer paid opportunities for BIPOC artists. Besides featuring work by these artists, each episode will include a segment called “This Week in Reparations” that examines an organization’s statement of solidarity with the #BLACKLIVESMATTER movement and keeps track of the work they have done toward that goal since releasing the statement.  You can watch the show at the theater or join us on Facebook Live to send us comments!

The Pilgrim's Progress

A Mayflower Descendant spills the beans in a dark but often comic mix of history and memoir (familial fails and the fate of the First Nations) presented on the 400th anniversary of the "First Thanksgiving." Writer/performer Trav S.D. has been making downtown theatre in NYC for over 30 years. His shows have been performed at Joe's Pub, La Mama, the Duplex, Theater for the New City, HERE, Dixon Place, The Brick, and of course Horse Trade! He is known as one of America's premiere vaudeville revivalists. His most recent production, "Horse Play" was presented at the Ellen Stewart Theatre with Everett Quinton, Molly Pope, and Tim Cusack, who also produced. This is his sixth solo show.
